Phnom Penh (FN), April 23 - His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni presided over the opening of the first sitting of the Senate in the 4th mandate on Monday, attended by Cambodia's top dignitaries, including Cambodian Senate President Say Chhum, President of the National Assembly Heng Samrin, Minister of Interior Sar Kheng, as well as senior officials and ambassadors.

In a royal speech, His Majesty King wrote, “my warmest congratulations to the Senators of the Fourth Mandate, who, from now on, will work together in harmony to fulfil their roles and duties in the supreme legislative body. Their duty will be to guarantee and safeguard the principles of check and balance and the fundamental principles of the Constitution, multi-party democracy, rights and freedom, and the legitimate of the people”.

“The Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia has been on a journey of peace and development under the framework of constitutional monarchy and multi-party democracy, which have enabled it to reach concrete achievements and highest accountability,” the message continued adding that “the Senate shall continue to strengthen national and local democratization, achieving progressive socio-economic development and national culture continue to prosper with equity, transparency, and accountability in accordance with good governance and the rule of law”.
