Phnom Penh (FN), June 6 - Panyarak Poolthup, Thai Ambassador to Cambodia, highly appreciated the growth of Cambodia’s energy sector during the meeting with Minister of Mines and Energy Suy Sem on Wednesday at the Ministry.

According to Minister of Mines and Energy, Cambodia back then could supply electricity to only the urban area; however, today she could supply up to 83% across the country, while the rest of 13% will be available in 2020.

The minister thanked the Thai government for selling 115 kilovolts to Cambodia unconditionally for the distribution in Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, and Siem Reap provinces.

Currently, the government has decided to allow three companies to study and communicate with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand to produce 7,200 megawatts of electricity for sale to Thailand.

The minister requested Thai ambassador to accelerate the work of oil exploitation; and asked for human resources training on geology in both short and long term studies and the exchange study.

The ambassador highly commended and valued the comprehensive cooperation of Cambodian-Thai Ministry of Mines and Energy.
