Phnom Penh (FN), July 1 - Cambodia broke Guinness World Records - the World’s Longest Hand Woven Scarf, announced Sunday morning at Koh Pich Phnom Penh.

The 1,000 Meters Hand Woven Scarf or Krama is organized by GoGo Cambodia, an organization established by youths to promote Cambodian national pride.

The event was commenced on February 14, 2018 under the patronage of King Nordom Sihamoni, Her Majesty Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, and Samdech Kittipritbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen.

The event attracted 338,050 national and international guests. At least, 22,314 registered to learn how to weave, and that 19,771 contributed to the 1,000 weaving.

The national guests came from all the 25 provinces and cities, ranging from His Majesty King, royal family, prime ministers, ministers, civil servants, handicapped persons, orphans, pregnant women, private institutions, students, artists and celebrities, and the general public; while international tourists came from 57 countries around the world, mostly the United States, France, China, Thailand and Japan.

The event aims to uphold the pride and prestige of the nation on international stage; to conserve and promote the cultural and traditional heritage of Krama with its simplicity and identity of Khmer; to galvanize the national solidarity and unity to achieve one unique accomplishment.

Krama, used by Cambodian people of all walks of life, is a traditional Khmer garment capable of more than 60 documented uses.

Krama is worn to provide protection from sun, dust, wind, cold and rain.

In daily activities, Krama can also be used to cover body when bathing, for decorative purposes, as a hammock for children, carrying things and babies; children use them to heft kittens and puppies around, women going to market or even cooking.

Krama has also been used as a form of weaponry in Khmer martial arts. Bokator fighters wrap the krama around their waists, heads and fists.

In the name of Khmer family, we promote our national pride through “The World’s Longest Hand Woven Scarf Krama”.

As of today, Cambodia has nine Guinness World Records, including Largest Religious Structure; Most States Roles Held by a Modern Royal; The Only Non-Professionals to Have Won Oscars; Widest Rapids; Laziest Freshwater Turtle; Longest Alphabet; Largest Sticky Rice Cake; Largest Madison Dance; and Longest Hand Woven Scarf.

On April 13, 2015, the giant Nom Ansorm, Cambodian sticky rice cake, broke a Guinness World Record.

The giant Nom Ansorm of 4 tons has been cooked for 45 hours by 100 chefs and sous chefs. The cake has been packed by 333 kg of banana leaves and 375 kg of banana strings, and the ingredients included one ton of sticky rice, 499 kg of coconut milk, 15 kg of salt, 499 kg of mung beans, 507 kg of bacon, 4 kg of sugar, 7 kg of Kampot pepper, 10 kg of minced garlic, and 16 kg of minced garlic leaves.

On 15 of April 2015, Cambodia claimed Guinness World Record of Largest Madison Dance in the world. 2,015 dancers participated in to break the record.
