UNITED NATIONS, March 29 (TASS) - The United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine on Tuesday, according to a schedule of events. The consultations have been initiated by France and Mexico.
Two resolutions on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine were submitted to a special session of the UN General Assembly on March 24. The first one, drawn up by France and Mexico, called on Russia to immediately stop its special military operation, while the other, drafted by South Africa, focused solely on humanitarian issues, including the delivery of aid and the creation of humanitarian corridors.
After the General Assembly had passed the document presented by France and Mexico, Ukrainian Permanent Representative Sergey Kislitsa said that South Africa had not formally requested a vote as specified by the rules. That said, the issue of holding a vote was put forward for separate consideration. Fifty countries, including Russia and China, supported holding a vote on South Africa’s document, 67 nations, namely the United States, the United Kingdom and France, opposed the initiative and 36 states, among them India, abstained from voting, so the UN General Assembly did not consider the document.
