United States (FN), Sep. 23 – Secretary general of the United Nations Antonio Guterres expressed his satisfaction at the kingdom’s active participation in the UN mission to maintain global peace.

Antonio Guterres spoke during a meeting with Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen, held on 22 September 2022 at the UN headquarters. The meeting touched on various issues.

Premier Hun Sen highlighted the kingdom’s commitment to maintaining peace in various countries under the UN mission. In the past, the kingdom suffered from war, fortunately, the kingdom received the assistances from UN in peace seeking process. The premier is delighted to contribute to global peace mission and is highly committed in such actions for global interests.

Since 2006, Cambodia has deployed 8,302 forces (580 are women) to carry out UN peacekeeping missions in nine countries – Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Lebanon, Cyprus, Syria, Mali, and Yemen.

Antonio Guterres expressed his pleasure at the cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia to implement the UN Agenda 2030 for sustainable development.

The secretary-general also highlighted the UN’s effort in the fight against COVID19 by working closely with other countries to address the COVID19 pandemic.

Regarding Russia-Ukraine war and inflation, the secretary-general said the UN stands in the spirit of solidarity with developing countries, in particular Cambodia.
