New York (FN), Sep. 24 – Timorese president José Manuel Ramos Horta expressed his deep gratitude to Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen for his efforts to help Timor-Leste become ASEAN member.

Timorese president spoke during a meeting with the premier on 23 September 2022 in New York, US.

The meeting touched on various issues such as Timor-Leste's ASEAN membership application and the promotion of Cambodia-Timor-Leste relations.

Both leaders also discussed direct flights between the two countries to foster trade and investment relations.

Premier Hun Sen applauded Ramos Horta over the election victory. The premier also highlighted his efforts in Timor-Leste's ASEAN membership application and hopes that Timor-Leste can become member of ASEAN in 2023.

Timorese president and his delegation expressed their satisfaction and gratitude to premier Hun Sen for his efforts in helping Timor-Leste to become ASEAN member.

Timorese president intended to enhance trade and investment relations between the two countries. He will consider importing more Cambodian products. He pledged to promote trade, agriculture and other sectors during his working visit to the kingdom in the upcoming October 2022.

Premier Hun Sen said that the Cambodia-Timor-Leste bilateral relations have been improved due to mutual trust. Despite the economic relations are still limited, the two leaders have desired to enhance.

Regarding trade relations, Samdech wanted to see the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries.
