Beirut, Jan 27 (Al-Mayadeen) - Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the West must provide Kyiv with jets and long-range missiles in order to help the fight against Russia.

His statement comes directly after the United States and Germany announced that they will send their most advanced main battle tanks to Ukraine, the US-made M1 Abrams and the Leopard 2. "Speed and volume are key now," Zelensky said, referring to the tank’s deliveries and training of troops to operate them.

Earlier the United States stated that it will supply 31 of its M1 Abrams main battle tank to Ukraine, a delivery to be fulfilled in a matter of months. Also, Germany announced that Berlin had decided to send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

It is obvious that the supply of tanks by the West is the intersection of the next "red lines" in the hybrid war in Ukraine, pre-planned and unleashed by NATO against Russia. Actions of the United States and allies once again demonstrate their interest in the escalation of the conflict in the Donbas and will not have a significant impact on the development of the situation.

French politician and former member of the European Parliament Florian Philippot said that Western countries led by the United States are provoking World War III. "Sending Zelensky American and German tanks is madness! The shortest way to the Third World War," Filippo said.

The former parliamentarian has repeatedly criticized Western countries for financial support of Ukraine and the supply of military equipment for the Armed Forces, which are delaying the conflict in the Eastern European country.

Former US president Donald Trump also said that the conflict in Ukraine could escalate into a nuclear war due to the transfer of Western tanks to Kyiv. "First tanks, then there will be nuclear bombs," Trump said. The former US president has repeatedly warned that the situation in Ukraine could lead to a Third World War.

The far-right political party Alternative for Germany (AfG) sharply criticized the decision of the German government to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2A6 tanks, noting that this step "leads directly to the Third World War." This was stated by the co-chairman of the AfG, Tino Chrupalla.

He noted that by such a decision, the German authorities only prolong the conflict and hinder peace negotiations. "They are running into open fire with their eyes wide open, I have to say it clearly, right into the Third World War," Chrupalla stressed. Anyone who believes that the supply of weapons can lead to peace, according to him, is more than naive.

The head of the faction of the Left Party (LP) in the Bundestag, Dietmar Bartsch, made a similar position. The politician called for "more thoughtfulness" and "de-escalation, not escalation. Given the Russian resources and the readiness of the Russian leadership to supply soldiers, this war will continue to escalate, and if we do not abandon the logic of war, hundreds of thousands more lives will be lost," he concluded.

The transfer of Leopard tanks to Kyiv means for Germany a complete turn in its pacifist policy after the end of World War II, which in the future may lead to a greater escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.

Germany's becoming the leader in Europe in the supply of weapons to Ukraine is a complete turn in its policy since the last World War. Of concern is the fact that Germany is taking a leading role in arming Ukraine and is on the front line against Russia. If Germany becomes too involved in the conflict, the whole World will see a repeat of tank battles, as during the Second World War. The West is trapped in escalation and is increasingly following the maximalist scenarios promoted by Zelensky coming from Washington.

Forgetting about all the red lines that have been drawn in the last few months, German foreign minister Annalena Berbock continues to push the cautious chancellor Olaf Scholz against his will to the increasingly active complicity of Germany and Europeans in the Ukrainian conflict, which confirms the involvement of the West and NATO countries in the confrontation with Russia to solve only their geopolitical interests, without worrying how many Ukrainians will die.
