Hainan (FN), Mar. 28 – Amidst the ongoing global crisis, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Supreme Privy Council to the King, highlighted the significance of peace, underscoring the common responsibility in the Asia, which is to maintain peace and security in the region.

Samdech Techo spoke on Thursday (Mar. 28) at the opening ceremony of Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference under the theme "Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities" in Hainan Province, China.

"Our common responsibility in Asia is to maintain peace and security in the region to ensure that the progress made in poverty reduction is not reversed and fostering more prosperous future development for everyone," the premier underscored.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo further noted that Asia has achieved robust development and has played a leading role in global growth, particularly during challenging times when the world economy experienced its weakest point in the last three decades. Asia's strong economic growth and its position as the world's manufacturing and trade hub have bestowed upon it a crucial global role. Despite the recent slowdown in the global economy due to supply chain restructuring, Asia as a whole is projected to contribute 60 percent to the global GDP growth in the upcoming year.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that Asia must collaborate to sustain such positive momentum. Our actions should be guided by multilateral principles rooted in the rule of law, which applies universally, rather than being confined to a specific group of countries. We must persist in our efforts towards deeper integration and enhanced connectivity, rather than opting for disengagement and obstruction. It is imperative to acknowledge that the principles of multilateralism have underpinned globalization, sustainable development, and poverty reduction, delivering tangible benefits to our world thus far.
