Shanghai (FN), June 26 – Addressing at the MWC Shanghai 2024, Huawei Wireless Solution's Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Eric Zhao unveiled an ambitious plan to integrate AI into networks. This initiative aims to build an ecosystem of RAN Intelligent Agents in collaboration with operators, targeting a significant increase in network productivity. The first phase will involve 1,000 site engineers and 10,000 sites across Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Bangkok, Jinan, and Shenzhen within six months.

"Our goal is to bring AI to networks, transitioning from a solution provider to a co-builder of intelligent networks," Zhao stated. "We believe that the co-growth of RAN Intelligent Agents and networks will generate extensive business value, transform networks more rapidly, and usher our industry into a new era of intelligence."

After three years of development, 2024 is being celebrated as the first year of commercial 5G-A. This next-generation technology has already shown impressive advancements in network, business, and device performance. However, the telecom sector faces challenges related to complex operations and maintenance (O&M), diverse network characteristics, and user experience-driven operations. Huawei’s strategy to introduce AI into networks aims to address these issues by building RAN Intelligent Agents that can enhance O&M, user experience, and service delivery.

RAN Intelligent Agents are designed to simplify processes and boost efficiency. An example is Huawei’s AI-based field maintenance engineer copilot, which autonomously generates solution policies from expert knowledge. In a recent case, it improved the handling efficiency of an optical path fault tenfold.

The RAN Intelligent Agent can autonomously optimize network performance and energy consumption. It uses multi-dimensional, high-precision real-time sensing to generate and implement optimal policies. In an area with 223 cells, this agent has operated stably for thousands of hours, maximizing performance while minimizing energy use. The RAN Intelligent Agent supports experience-driven service operations by evaluating network resources in real time, allowing operators to provision new services on demand. A notable example is the 5G-A livestreaming assurance package, which provides deterministic uplink speeds for fruit farmers to reach customers through livestreaming. This innovation demonstrates how operators can create new business models and accelerate monetization.

It should be noted that MWC Shanghai 2024, taking place from June 26-28 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), will feature Huawei's latest products and solutions at stands E10 and E50 in Hall N1.

In addition, 2024 marks the first year of commercial 5.5G, with F5.5G gigabit optical network deployment underway. The synergy between networks, cloud, and intelligence is expected to drive the development of pervasive intelligent applications and diverse user experiences. Huawei, along with global operators, industry professionals, and opinion leaders, will explore topics like amplifying 5G’s success in the 5.5G era and unlocking new revenue growth potential at MWC Shanghai 2024.
