Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 13 – Cambodian President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary met with President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam To Lam on Saturday (Jul. 13) at the National Assembly.

To Lam arrived Phnom Penh on 12 July 2024 for a two-day state visit.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their appreciation for the traditional friendship, solidarity, and close partnership between the two countries, demonstrating the resilience and longevity of their relationship. They underlined mutual trust to promote development for the common benefit of both peoples and countries.

Khuon Sudary warmly welcomed the presence of To Lam with the firm belief that this visit will bring more new benefits to the people and the two countries.

Cambodian President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary congratulated President To Lam on his appointment as President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.

At the same time, Khuon Sudary requested the president to promote cross-border trade between the two countries to achieve a trade volume exceeding USD 10 billion this year or next year.

To Lam expressed gratitude to the National Assembly of Cambodia for their warm welcome. He praised Cambodia's remarkable progress and expressed optimism that Cambodia could achieve its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050. He also congratulated Cambodia on the success of recent elections, attributing it to the wise leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, and highlighted that Cambodia's successes reflect the trust and love of the Cambodian people for their party and the Royal Government.

The Vietnamese President also appreciated the 2023 Memorandum of Understanding signed between the National Assemblies of Cambodia and Viet Nam, aimed at enhancing cooperation, particularly through active exchanges of visits at all levels.

It should be noted that both sides attach great importance to the traditional relationship between Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Laos, and reiterated their commitment to mutual support in all circumstances.

To Lam thanked Cambodia for its historical support, particularly under the leadership of late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, during Viet Nam’s struggle for national independence and territorial unification. He also expressed gratitude for Viet Nam’s role in liberating Cambodia from the Khmer Rouge regime and for its continued support in Cambodia's development.

The president of the Cambodian National Assembly thanked the Party, Government, and National Assembly of Viet Nam for assisting in the construction of a new administrative building for the National Assembly of Cambodia, which is scheduled for completion and inauguration by the end of 2024.
