Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 29​ – The “Xinjiang is a Wonderful Land” information session was successfully held on 29 November 2024 at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, Cambodia.

Organised by Xinjiang Friendship Exchange Delegation and Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, the session reaffirmed the importance of unity in diversity, setting the stage for greater collaboration in the future.

The event was presided over by Wang Wenbin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Zhang Zhu, Deputy Party Secretary of CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee and Party Secretary of CPC Urumqi City Committee, Zhang Qiang, Party Secretary of the Department of Water Conservancy of Xinjiang, Xu Tao, Deputy Director General of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Xinjiang, Hou Yong, Deputy Mayor of Urumqi City of Xinjiang, along with members of the public sector, media and academia.

Celebrating 66 years of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and China, this event brought together nearly 100 participants, highlighting the deepening partnership between the two nations across various sectors such as culture, education, trade, and tourism.

During the session, Xinjiang officials presented the audience with achievements in the Xinjiang region from economic and social development to human rights protection.

Zhang Zhu, in his address, emphasised Xinjiang’s rich multicultural heritage and highlighted how this diversity strengthens the region’s social fabric and invited Cambodian people to explore Xinjiang’s cultural richness and natural beauty.

At the event, Xu Tao also discussed Xinjiang’s strategic importance in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, offering opportunities for Cambodia to collaborate in economic, agriculture, investment, digital and so on. He highlighted Xinjiang's harmony, growth, and prosperity, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening ties with Cambodia and expanding its market further.

On the occasion, Ambassador Wang Wenbin extended a warm welcome to the Xinjiang delegation and congratulate them on the successful event.

“Xinjiang and Cambodia are geographically close and have many cooperative relations. [The late-king father] Norodom Sihanouk also visited Xinjiang. This year, in August, I was honored to accompany King Norodom Sihamoni to Xinjiang. I hope that this exchange will make Cambodia and China closer to each other, further strengthen our friendship, and deepen our all-round cooperation,” said the ambassador.

Ambassador Wang added, “China and Cambodia have close geographical, historical, cultural and people-to-people ties, and are also steel-like friends. It can be said that they are brothers who care about each other.”

At the same time, the ambassador continued, “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 66 years ago, the two sides have maintained frequent high-level exchanges, strengthened political mutual trust and continued traditional friendly relations.”

The “Xinjiang is a Wonderful Land” information session showcased the rich heritage and culture of Xinjiang through music, dance, and traditional costumes. It also illustrated the cultural, economic, and social development of Xinjiang, a region in northwest China. The session featured videos and presentations highlighting the region's natural beauty, harmonious multi-ethnic society, and advancements in various sectors, including education, tourism, and religious freedoms.
