Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 13 – President-elect Donald Trump plans to boost US oil production to cut energy costs. Data shows his previous administration was highly favourable to the oil and gas industry.

In Trump’s first year, oil and gas leases on public land surged 93% compared to Obama’s last year, but Biden’s administration sharply reduced leases, temporarily pausing them in 2021 to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

Following Trump’s 2024 win, Biden further restricted oil drilling, limiting Arctic National Wildlife Refuge lease sales to 400,000 acres, a fraction of the area. Environmental groups oppose drilling, but Trump aims to advance oil exploration in the region.
