Vientiane (FN), Feb. 7 – On the evening of 6 February 2025, Saysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly of Laos, hosted an official banquet in honour of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate, and the high-level delegation.
The event, marked by great honour and deep cordiality, took place at the Holiday Inn & Suites Vientiane, an IHG Hotel in Vientiane, Laos.
Prior to the banquet, a traditional Laotian handshake ceremony was held to extend best wishes to Samdech Techo and the Cambodian delegation for success in their two-day official visit to Laos.
In his remarks at the official banquet, Saysomphone Phomvihane expressed his great joy and deep honour in welcoming Samdech Techo Hun Sen for the first time since his election as President of the Cambodian Senate.
He emphasised that Samdech Techo’s official visit follows a long-standing tradition of strengthening the bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two neighbouring countries. He highlighted the importance of their relationship, particularly as comprehensive and long-term strategic partners in fostering cooperation between their governments, parliaments, senates, and peoples.
The president of the Lao National Assembly commended the success of the bilateral meeting between Samdech Techo and Lao leaders earlier in the day, which focused on further enhancing relations and cooperation between the two nations, their respective parliaments, and the Cambodian Senate.
On behalf of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the Government, and the people of Laos, including its diverse ethnic communities, the president expressed his deep gratitude to the Cambodian People’s Party, the Royal Government of Cambodia, and the Cambodian people for their unwavering support of Laos, both historically and in the present, in its national development efforts.
He also extended appreciation to Cambodia for its contributions to human resource development, particularly through scholarships provided by the Cambodian Senate for Lao National Assembly officials, as well as for its support in various sectors, including within regional and international frameworks.
In his address at the banquet, Samdech Techo Hun Sen conveyed his deep gratitude to the President of the Lao National Assembly for the warm hospitality and the banquet held in an atmosphere of friendship, honour, and goodwill. He praised the traditional, brotherly, and long-standing ties between the two peoples and nations.
Samdech Techo expressed confidence that the comprehensive and long-term strategic partnership, established between Cambodia and Laos in 2019, will continue to progress and be further strengthened through close cooperation at all levels, including within state and party frameworks.
He also expressed great satisfaction with the results of his in-depth discussions with the President of the Lao National Assembly, particularly their agreement to further promote cooperation between the two legislative bodies. He reaffirmed their mutual commitment to supporting one another within inter-parliamentary institutions at both regional and international levels, working towards peace, stability, prosperity, and sustainable development for both nations and the global community.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasised that, in the spirit of traditional friendship and close solidarity, the Cambodian Parliament remains committed to strengthening cooperation with the Lao National Assembly for the benefit of both nations and their peoples.
Furthermore, he expressed his anticipation of welcoming the president of the Lao National Assembly for an official and friendly visit to Cambodia in the near future.
