Manila (FN), Feb. 11 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. presided over the exchange of several key cooperation agreements on Tuesday (Feb. 11) in Manila, the Philippines.
Among these agreements was the signing of the Agreement on the Elimination of Double Taxation with Respect to Taxes on Income and the Prevention of Tax Evasion and Avoidance (Double Taxation Agreement - DTA).
The agreement was signed by Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, and Philippine Secretary of Finance Ralph G. Recto, on behalf of the Government of the Philippines.
This marks Cambodia’s 13th Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) with a partner jurisdiction. Notably, Cambodia has now signed DTAs with all ASEAN member states except Myanmar, with whom full technical negotiations were recently completed.
The agreement aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation, provide clarity on taxing rights, attract foreign direct investment, facilitate capital flows, and support technology and expertise transfers. Additionally, it offers protection for residents from tax-related issues and enhances collaboration between the two nations in combating tax evasion.
The signing of the Cambodia-Philippines DTA represents another significant milestone for the seventh-mandate Royal Government under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, building on the strong foundation set by Samdech Techo Hun Sen. Meanwhile, Cambodia is also negotiating similar agreements with Japan, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, France, and Qatar.
