Kyoto (FN), Mar. 12 – Kyoto, Japan’s former capital, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and historical sites linked to emperors, warlords, and Buddhism, has become a major tourist attraction.
Kyoto served as Japan’s capital for over 1,000 years, from 794 to 1868. Today, it remains a centre of traditional Japanese culture and Buddhism. Many Japanese people aim to visit Kyoto at least once in their lifetime, and nearly a third of the country’s population visits the city each year.
Several of Kyoto’s historic temples and gardens were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
During his visit to Japan in early March 2025, Vann Saray is also scheduled to visit this historic former capital. As a city rich in cultural treasures and a renowned historical destination, Kyoto has been carefully preserved by the government.
Many traditional buildings, including private residences, have retained their original form to maintain the city’s authentic charm. Unlike modern urban centres, Kyoto has relatively few high-rise buildings, and its historic structures, including imperial palaces, military command sites, and Buddhist temples, have been meticulously maintained to this day.
