(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Frances Adamson, Governor of South Australia (SA), on Monday (May 19) at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, Governor Adamson expressed strong interest in Cambodia’s progress across all sectors and highly appreciated the growing relations and cooperation between Australia and Cambodia.

She said that the main purpose of her visit was to explore opportunities to strengthen and expand cooperation between South Australia and Cambodia.

Governor Adamson outlined South Australia’s key potential sectors, including agriculture, education, tourism, and energy. She also noted the presence of a Cambodian community of nearly 4,000 people living, working, and studying in South Australia.

Furthermore, she praised the diligence and determination of Cambodian students pursuing their studies at educational institutions and universities in the state.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei expressed deep gratitude to the Government and people of Australia for their contributions to Cambodia’s peacebuilding, post-conflict reconstruction, and ongoing development—efforts that have significantly contributed to Cambodia’s socio-economic progress.

The premier also expressed satisfaction with the strong relations between the two countries. Premier Hun Manet extended his thanks to Australia in general and South Australia in particular for their long-standing support in the development of Cambodia’s human resources over the past decades. Additionally, he emphasised the Royal Government of Cambodia’s focus on human capital development, particularly in improving public well-being, enhancing vocational training, and creating jobs for its citizens.

Both sides also exchanged views on strengthening and expanding cooperation, as well as exploring further opportunities in key areas such as education, clean energy, trade, investment, agriculture, vocational training, and people-to-people connections through cultural exchanges, the arts, and tourist attractions.
