Phnom Penh (FN), March 14 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen appealed to Cambodian tycoons to invest on Cambodian agriculture, addressing at the annual meeting of Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries on Thursday.
“Regarding livestock, we need more investors; it doesn’t have to be investors from abroad, Cambodian tycoons could invest in animal food for better animal rearing sector,” said Prime Minister.
“Cambodia has many millionaires. I don’t refer to cash, but assets,” he added.
Agriculture is one of the main sectors of Cambodia's economic growth. In 2018, agriculture contributed to 23.5 per cent of GDP, of which, 58 per cent is agricultural products, 11 per cent livestock
Cambodian investors seem not interested in the complexity of agriculture due to high competitiveness with neighboring countries. They rather prefer real estate and construction sectors. After all, a majority of Cambodian people do farming, thus, the Premier urged for more investment on the fields to assist the local people.
