Phnom Penh (FN), April 3 – Investigating Judge Kei Maneera, on Wednesday, ordered to detain Pheng Vannak at Prey Sar Prison, not too far from the Killing Field, at 12:40 p.m.
Vannak was allegedly charged with defamation and incitement. Facebook user and also military officer, Vannak, through his Facebook page, accused the Premier as a man behind the murder of political commentator Kem Ley.
Prime Minister’s lawyer Ky Tech filed complaints to the court on 1 April 2019 stating that Vannak used Facebook to incite the public for criminal acts.
According to Articles 494 and 495 of the Penal Code, Pheng Vannak could face the sentence from six months to two years imprisonment and a fine from 1 million Riels (USD 250) to 4 million Riels (USD 1,000).
