Tokyo, Japan (FN), May 31 - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen requested Japan for assistance to build the 350km electricity transmission lines from Cambodia-Laos border to the capital Phnom Penh, speaking in a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo on Friday.

Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, quoted the Premier: "This year Cambodia faces electricity shortages, as the hot weather halts the production of hydropower."

"Cambodia would like to request Japan to consider the 350km transmission lines proposal as discussed so far between JICA and the Ministry of Mines and Energy," the delegate minister added.

Prime Minister reiterated that the project of installing electric grid, backed by the Japanese Government to Cambodia, is significantly important to increase electricity generation in Cambodia in response to the gradual consumption from day to day.
