Phnom Penh (FN), June 4 - Dionisio dacosta Babo Soares, minister of foreign affairs and cooperation of the Democratic Republic Of Timor-Leste, requested Heng Samrin, president of the Cambodia’s National Assembly, to support Timor-Leste as a member of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), speaking in a courtesy call on the president at the National Assembly on Tuesday morning.
Babo Soares informed the president that his two-day visit to Cambodia aims to discuss areas of cooperation to strengthen friendly relations between the two countries as well as exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest, including matter regarding Timor-Leste’s applications for a membership in ASEAN and AIPA.
Babo Soares emphasized the importance of Cambodia-Timor Leste friendship, solidarity and cooperation at all levels. He also acknowledged Cambodia’s progress and peace.
President Heng Samrin said that Cambodia was pleased on behalf of ASEAN member countries to share experience on narrowing the gap of regional development.
