Sihanoukville (FN), June 24 - The 60-hour search operation for victims of the collapse building in Sihanoukville province ended at 7:30 p.m on Monday, 24 June.

Prime Minister Hun Sen visited the site and held a press conference, accompanied by provincial governor Yun Min and Minister Chea Sophara of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction.

“Our searching operation for missing bodies concluded; yet our investigation for the responsible persons is still processing,” the Premier stated.

“We will find out the cause of the collapse and whether the building is legal,” he added.

Prime Minister expressed regret over the collapse of the massive building. He thanked government officials, authorities, rescue teams, and other stakeholders for contributing to the rescue operation over the last two and a half days.

A seven-storey building in the coast of Cambodia, 230 km west of the capital Phnom Penh, collapsed at about 5 a.m in the morning of Saturday, 22 June.

Concluding the searching on 7:30 p.m on Monday, authority found 28 bodies of construction workers, four females, dead; and 26 others, two females, severely injured.

According to the Premier’s announcement, each of the dead victim will receive USD 70,000, while the injured USD 10,000.
