Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 1 – The Royal Government considered the “nine finger” campaign a “plan to support coup d'etat”, which is a serious violations of Cambodian penal code, according to spokesperson of Ministry of Justice Kim Santepheap.

“Those who plan to topple the legitimate government has created [nine fingers] campaign, according to their definition, means supporting the repatriation of Sam Rainsy on 9 November, which in fact they determined the above date to initiate a coup; and that would violate the penal code’s Article 453 on [conspiring],” Santepheap told Fresh News.

The Ministry of Justice urged people who are currently in the plot to overthrow the government to step back; and report to authority in order to be pardoned in accordance to Article 454 of the penal code.

The Government’s warning was made following the launching of the “nine fingers” campaign by the dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).

“From today until 9 November, we must raise nine fingers to show support for November 9 at every meeting and greeting,” former CNRP senior official Ho Vann posted on Facebook on 23 September 2019.

The Royal Government considered Sam Rainsy’s repatriation “the attempt to overthrow the government”, aimed at destroying peace and development of Cambodia.
