Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 31 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has made it clear that Cambodia will not trade sovereignty with any favors or assistances, speaking at the closing of the annual conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held Friday at the Peace Palace.

His statement came before the European Union made a decision on 12 February 2020 to suspend Cambodia's preferential trade arrangement EBA.

The EU started in February 2019 the 18-month process that could lead to the temporary suspension of Cambodia's duty-free trading access to the EU market under the EBA scheme due to concerns over human rights and labor rights.

"It would be such a disgrace if we could not implement our laws but follow the orders of others. Aren’t we the independent and sovereign country?”, the premier addressed.
