Battambang (FN), Mar. 14 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that international visitors to Cambodia dropped by 30.5 percent due to Covid-19 outbreak while Chinese tourists down by 40 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

The premier spoke at the opening ceremony of River Festival in Battambang on Saturday.

“Cambodia’s tourism declining rate is low compared to those in neighbouring countries,” he said.

In 2019, the number of international tourists to Cambodia reached about 6.6 million, growing triple compared to the figure ten years ago which was 2.1 million.

According to the premier, tourism is the green gold. Gross revenue from international tourism in 2019 was USD 4.9 billion, accounting for nearly 13 percent of GDP.

“Tourism is the fourth-largest sub-sector in the service industry, followed by commerce, transport, telecommunications and real estate. Tourism has created more than 630,000 direct jobs and tens of thousands of indirect jobs,” he said.
