Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 28 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said he is a Cambodian premier who has held the ASEAN chairmanship hammer three times, the premier wrote on his Facebook on Thursday.

“I am a Cambodian premier who has held the ASEAN chairmanship hammer three times. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my compatriots who have voiced support for me to become the leader of the country, enabling me to participate in regional and international affairs through ASEAN,” the premier wrote.

Prime minister Hun Sen received the hammer to chair ASEAN meetings in 2022 after concluding the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits and other related summits held from 26-28 October 2021.

Cambodia officially became a member of ASEAN on 30 April 1999. The kingdom hosted the ASEAN summits the first time in 2002 and the second time in 2012.

At the outset, on behalf of the people and the Royal Government of Cambodia, prime minister Hun Sen was indeed proud that Cambodia is taking on the ASEAN Chairmanship for 2022.

“As the Chair of ASEAN in 2022, Cambodia is committed to leading ASEAN under the theme “ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together” for harmony, peace, and prosperity in the whole region,” the premier underlined.

Cambodia underscored key priorities for 2022, including Political and Security Pillar, Economic Pillar and Socio-Cultural Pillar.
