Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 28 – In order to gain trust from readers, journalists should reveal the source’s identity, but in some cases, the journalists can also keep the source anonymously if it can be harmful to the source, according to president of Fresh News Training Center (FTC) Mar Yarith.

"In some cases, keeping sources anonymously, through hiding name, location and even the voice, could secure the safety of the sources themselves.”

Yarith added that the source can be kept anonymously only in news publications or press releases, but not in the court trial.

Mar Yarith is a local veteran journalist, who has been working in the field of journalism for over 30 years. He worked for various well-known foreign news agencies such as UPI, AP and VOA.

Yarith was also the founder and co-founder to several media outlets in Cambodia. Back then, he was the only Cambodian student majoring in journalism at the University of Michigan and the University of Maryland in the United States.

Mar Yarith spoke in a training organized by Fresh News Training Center (FTC) on 23 October 2021.
