Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 1 – Since the COVID19 outbreak, Cambodia has spent USD 2.3 billion to fight against COVID19, of which more than USD 400 million to help the vulnerable, Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen spoke on Monday at the Peace Palace.

“Our expenditures could be USD 2.3 billion in total as USD 1.5 billion were spent to combat COVID19 this year and USD 800 million last year,” the premier underlined.

Nearly 700,000 poor households received incentives from the government.

In addition, the Royal Government is still responsible for the garment workers who lost their jobs. They will receive additional USD 70, of which USD 40 from the government and USD 30 from their employers, while the hotel sector received additional USD 40 per month.

To support the economic recovery, the Royal Government of Cambodia has decided to continue to support the garment and tourism sectors for an additional three months starting from October to December, 2021.
