Kampong Cham (FN), Nov. 23 – After Cambodia fully reopens, the kingdom’s economic growth is expected to increase by approximately 3 percent in 2021, and more than 5 percent in 2022, Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen spoke at the inauguration ceremony of Cambodia-China Stueng Trang-Kroch Chhmar Friendship Bridge on Tuesday.

"The economic growth for this year might exceed 2.4 percent which has been forecasted. I think if the economic growth in the last two months of 2021 goes well, our growth could reach around 3 percent,” the premier underlined.

The premier hoped that Cambodia's economic growth can increase by more than 5 percent in 2022.

Samdech is optimistic about economic growth thanks to the increasing of agricultural and industrial exports, along with upcoming official signing of the Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement (CCFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Agreement, which will enter into force on 1 January 2022. The agreements enable Cambodia to strengthen its agricultural sector through exports, especially to China.

In this regard, the premier added that Cambodia’s exports of agricultural products in 2021 have exceeded the plan despite COVID19 pandemic. Cambodia also welcomes various investment opportunities for a recovery in its industrial sector.
