Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 23 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen reaffirmed that he will continue to serve as prime minister if citizens continue to vote for the ruling Cambodian People’s Party.

The premier spoke at the inauguration ceremony of Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge Stueng Trang-Kroch Chhmar on Tuesday at Kompong Cham Province.

“I will continue to maintain peace until the ill-intended extremist groups disappear from earth, and then later pave the way for the next generation,” he said adding that “without Lon Nol's coup d’état in 1970, Cambodia would have developed more rapid than today. Cambodia achieved a full peace on 29 December 1998 after many years of civil wars.”

“Some democratic countries supported Lon Nol's military coup d’état and the Khmer Rouge at the United Nations, but they never expressed their regret for the loss of Khmer lives.”

“Hun Sen will not bow to any oppression that leads to instability and loss of peace in the country,” the premier added.
