Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 16 – Royal Cambodian Armed Force’s deputy commander-in-chief and army commander lieutenant general Hun Manet met with Russian secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev and Russian delegations on Thursday.

Hun Manet welcomed Russian delegations for their official visit to the kingdom. He highly appreciated Cambodia-Russia friendship and cooperation in every sector, in particular, the military sector, which has been strengthened and expanded in the spirit of traditional friendship, mutual respect, and assistances.

Manet pledged to restore the disrupted cooperation in the past two years due to COVID19.

Russian secretary of the security council expressed his satisfaction with potential military cooperation between the two countries.

Patrushev said that Cambodia is a trusted partner in Southeast Asia and the security cooperation is fundamental bilateral relations. Moreover, he pledged to further strengthen the cooperation in the fields of counter-terrorism, international information security and transnational crime.

On that occasion, Russian Army’s commader-in-chief general Oleg Salyukov thanked Hun Manet for focusing on strengthening the military cooperation between the two countries and willingness to assist Cambodian army in training human resources in various fields.

This is the second time that Hun Manet had a meeting with Nikolai Patrushev and Oleg Salyukov, while their first meeting was held in 2019 in Moscow, Russia. They scheduled to have another meeting in 2022 to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation between the Cambodian and Russian Armed Forces, which is significant to strengthen the military cooperation between the two countries.
