Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 16 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen affirmed that Cambodia will examine the possibility of developing and expanding the existing railway networks to other potential provinces.

The premier spoke at the cabinet meeting on Thursday at Peace Palace.

The new railway is the expansion of the existing railway in Poipet. It will further connect to Siem Reap, to Kampong Thom and to Phnom Penh, and also from Phnom Penh to Bavet, Svay Rieng province.

The development aims to reduce traffic accidents and increase transport capacity for better development of socio-economic activities.

Cambodia has two rail lines. First line is 266 km long, connecting Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. The second one is 386 km long, connecting Phnom Penh and Banteay Meanchey's Poipet.
