Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 17 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia pledged to strengthen solidarity and promote cooperation in ASEAN during her chairmanship in 2022, speaking at a courtesy call paid by Thai foreign minister Don Pramudwinai on Friday at the Peace Palace.

The premier and Thai foreign minister exchanged views on the current regional and international issues as well as the role of Cambodian as the Chair of ASEAN in 2022, according to the premier’s personal secretary Eang Sophallet.

Samdech underlined that Cambodia will strive to address key priorities, including the fight against COVID19 in order to resume socio-economic activities and boost people-to-people ties.

Premier Hun Sen reaffirmed the kingdom's three positions as chair of ASEAN regarding the South China Sea disputes, including full implementation of the Declaration on the Resolution of the South China Sea Dispute (DOC), calling for joint coordination from relevant countries, and joint efforts to achieve the Code of Conduct in the Disputed Sea (COC).

On that occasion, Thai foreign minister congratulated Cambodia for the rapid development and wished the kingdom a success in holding the ASEAN chairmanship in 2022. He also praised Cambodia’s COVID19 effective control as more than 88 percent of the total population have been vaccinated.
