Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 21 – Cambodian delegate minister Kao Kim Hourn said that the goal of Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen to Myanmar was to engage Myanmar constructively as Myanmar cannot be isolated.

The delegate minister spoke in the interview with CNBC International on Friday.

“First, Myanmar is the member of ASEAN, thus ASEAN needs solidarity and unity to work together. The situation in Myanmar requires us to keep the dialogue open. The premier’s visit was a focus on ceasefire and requested the military leader to maintain ceasefire and they also agreed to maintain it [ceasefire] until the end of this year,” Kao Kim Hourn said.

“Second, the premier’s visit aimed to open the door for the special envoy of the ASEAN chair," the delegate minister added.

“Thirdly, the premier’s visit was to deliver humanitarian assistances to the needy people in Myanmar.”

“In the five-point consensus that has been reached by the ASEAN leaders in April last year, one of them is to make sure that we stop the violence as soon as possible and start a dialogue. Particularly, it needs to have ASEAN special envoy to meet all parties concerned in the inclusive manner and make sure Burmese people receive the humanitarian assistances,” Kao Kim Hourn underlined.

He continued, “My prime minister has already proposed to have ASEAN Troika, which comprising Cambodia as the current chair of ASEAN, Brunei as the former chair, and Indonesia as the next chair and ASEAN Secretariat to monitor the progress of the implementation of the five-point consensus.”
