Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 25 – Cambodian interior minister Sar Kheng warned a minister to take responsibility for allowing the imports of 100 tons of synthesized drugs into the kingdom.

The authorities discovered that the ingredients, which were requested to be imported for manufacturing fertilizer products, are now used for synthesizing illicit drugs, minister Sar Kheng underlined.

Sar Kheng spoke on Tuesday at the General Commissariat of National Police.

“Three days ago, we have discovered more than 100 tons of legally imported chemical substances to synthesize drugs in the kingdom, via Laos, Thailand, and Viet Nam borders,” the interior minister underlined.

He continued, “I would like to urge a minister and relevant ministries to solve this issue; otherwise, shall take charge with destroying public health and the national economy.”

Sar Kheng added that we must not allow drugs to control our kingdom; otherwise, we will controlled by mafias.

According to the report of the Anti-drug Commission, In 2021, authorities had cracked down on 6,242 drug crimes nationwide, detaining 13,765 people, 802 females, confiscated over 4.4 tons of drugs. Among the near 40,000 people detained, approximately 55% are related to drugs.
