Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 24 – Malaysian prime minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob reaffirmed full support for the work of the ASEAN chair’s special envoy on Myanmar and looked forward to the visit of the special envoy to Myanmar.
The Malaysian prime minister spoke in a bilateral meeting with Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen on Thursday at the Peace Palace.
Dato Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob expressed full support to Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2022 under the theme “ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together”.
“Both leaders exchanged views in a frank and candid manner on regional and international issues of common interest and concerns such as Myanmar issue, South China Sea and geopolitical rivalry among major powers. They underscored the critical importance of ensuring the effective and timely implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) of the ASEAN Leaders," according to the joint statement seen by Fresh News on Thursday.
On 17 February 2022, as ASEAN chair’s special envoy, Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn announced his visit to Myanmar in the second week of March on a mission to meet with parties concerned to deliver humanitarian assistances.
