Phnom Penh (FN), May 30 – On the second day of Huawei APAC Digital Innovation Congress 2022 in Singapore, the Vice president of Huawei Cambodia Kim Zhao had an in-depth conversation with the president of CamTech University, Sothy Khieng. They toured the exhibition hall together and shared thought about ICT talent training.

Sothy Khieng showed a great interest on what Huawei has done in ASEAN countries. Kim Zhao and the consultant gave him a brief introduction of Huawei ICT Academy, which focused to cultivating talents for governments, enterprises, universities, operators, industry organizations, and many more. This will enable the digital transformation of local ICT industries, promote innovations within start-ups and SMEs, and facilitate the creation of a 5G-based innovation ecosystem. The program, which prioritizes talent enablement and ecosystem building, covers numerous fields, including public cloud, AI, HMS, and intelligent computing. In the past 2 years, Huawei has invested $10 million USD and trained more than 130K ICT talents in the region with ASEAN Academies in 4 countries.

Based on the good reputation of talent training around the ASEAN, Huawei Cambodia also kicked-off their own try on ICT talent training by hosting the first ICT competition in Cambodia. In 2021, the competition reached out to more than 200 students, and 66 students had registered as candidates to compete. Winners are not only given preference for joining Huawei/partners, but also may obtain internship offers from Huawei/partners or be exempt from interviews. Huawei Cambodia promoted learning, improved skills, and facilitated employment through competition, injected new vitality into Cambodia education and industry. “This year, Huawei Cambodia wants to host ICT competition as well, we are very glad to sponsor more students for their ICT academic journey” said Kim Zhao.

Sothy Khieng on behalf of CamTech, an important partner of Huawei Cambodia, fully supports this initiative, noting that Huawei as one of the biggest key actors in the Asia Pacific region in technology development and a potential industrial partner who share the same goal with the university of promoting science and technology in Cambodia. Both parties decided to cooperate more closely in ICT talent trainings particularly in areas of artificial intelligence, data science, cyber security and automation.

Huawei flagship, “Seeds for the Future Program” enrollment is about to start as well, the program seeks to inspire local talent, enhance knowledge sharing, promote a greater understanding and interest in the ICT sector, and encourage participation in the digital community. Kim Zhao kindly ask CamTech students to participate in the program as well. To achieve the talent connection, Kim Zhao also mentioned to arrange more internship program for CamTech students with Huawei.
