Siem Reap (FN), Oct. 7 – Cambodian minister of land management Chea Sophara said Friday (Oct 7) that Preah Dak residents will not be relocated to Run Ta Ek area unless they volunteered to.

Minister Sophara requested Preah Dak people to work with the government to stop newcomers from settling in the commune or constructing new buildings in order to avoid the negative effects on Angkor Archaeological Park.

Sophara visited Banteay Srei district’s Preah Dak commune to clarify to people the government’s intentions of restoring East Baray water.

On 5 October 2022, about 3,000 people of Preah Dak commune protested after receiving news that they will be moved to the Run Ta Ek resettlement site.
