Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 22 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that president of the United States Joe Biden expressed his interests in Cambodia’s Apsara costumes and history.

The premier spoke at the closing ceremony of the 30th Anniversary of the National Convention on Mine Action in Cambodia held on Tuesday morning.

“He [Biden] asked me about the origin of Apsara dancers' costumes. I answered that we designed the costume following the temples' inscriptions and sculpture. Therefore, this costume has been around for a thousand years,” the premier underlined.

On 12 November 2022, Biden arrived in Cambodia for the ASEAN-US Summit and the ASEAN-East Asia Summit.

Apsara dance is one the most beautiful and ancient performances, known for the elegant and elaborate movements of dancers in ornate costumes. The dance represents the beauty of Cambodian culture and is performed by women who play the roles of goddesses and celestial figures.
