Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 11 – Cambodian army commander lieutenant general Hun Manet reacted to the baseless allegation made by the VOD over the signing of financial assistance to Türkiye.

"It is funny. If you posted out of career professionalism, I will not react. However, regarding professional journalism under a well-known media institution, I need a clarification based on realism and responsibility," Manet wrote on his Facebook.

Hun Manet requested VOD to release documents stating that he had signed on behalf of Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen the offering of financial assistance to Türkiye. He neither knows nor has the right to sign any government documents.

"I searched for the relevant documents but I found only one press release from Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs that was not signed by anyone," Manet continued.

Lastly, Manet requested VOD to apologize and immediately edit the information to avoid public confusion.

"I want nothing rather than accuracy and certainty," Manet added.

On 9 February 2023, VOD published an article entitled "Government officials say that Manet's role on behalf of his father in providing aid to Türkiye is not wrong."

In this article, the journalists interviewed civil society organizations and government officials to express their views on the case. However, there are no documents showing that Manet signed the aid agreement to Türkiye.
