Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 24 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen considered providing livelihood support, such poor ID cards, to people residing in the dolphin conservation areas after the Royal Government of Cambodia banned fishing in the area.

The premier spoke at the closing of an annual meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries, held on Friday (Mar. 24) at the ministry.

Premier Hun Sen saw that applying only administrative measures to fishermen alone does not work, but giving support for their livelihoods is better.

Samdech also instructed agriculture minister Dith Tina to compile statistics on the population of fishermen in the banned dolphin conservation area to examine the possibility of providing support.

According to Dith Tina, about 1,300 families in Kratie and Stung Treng provinces have been banned from fishing in the dolphin sanctuary.
