Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 8 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen asked people to repay their loans if they can afford it and not to depend on intervention from the premier, speaking during a meeting with Buddhist priests on Saturday morning (Apr 8) at Diamond Island.

On that occasion, the premier also encouraged banks and microfinance institutions to confiscate the assets of those who refuse pay back the bank loans following incitements from ill-intended groups.

Samdech continued, the government is requesting a credit restructuring for bank debtors to understand the difficulty of repayment and so on, so that it will give some time for the repayment, but that does not mean people should give up their responsibilities in paying back the loans.

Some opposition groups have spread propaganda that if their political parties win the elections, they will cancel all loan repayments.
