Siem Reap (FN), Apr. 14 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen underlined six factors that contributed to the successful celebration of Angkor Sankranta and Khmer New Year throughout the country.

The six factors are peace and political stability, effective COVID19 control, infrastructure, transportation, budget and organization the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), the premier spoke at the opening ceremony of Angkor Sankranta, held on Friday (Apr 14) in Siem Reap province.

The premier considered peace and political stability as an important factor that provides an opportunity for people to celebrate and that people can do everything in accordance with the kingdom’s law.

As for the effective COVID19 control, Samdech said that it has provided an opportunity to organize the New Year throughout the country and also to organize Angkor Sankranta events, which so far Cambodia has not reported severe cases. At the same time, Samdech continued to call on people to practice good hygiene.

In terms of infrastructure, it has made easier for Cambodian people to travel from one place to another and spend less time travelling, the premier added.

Samdech continued, having various means of transportation enables people to travel easily. During the New Year, the Phnom Penh Capital Administration provided 345 public buses to transport people to their hometowns for free of charge.

Although current economic situation faces a little hardship, Cambodian people has been able to travel on the occasion of the New Year, the premier added.

On that occasion, Samdech expressed his appreciation to the UYFC for their initiatives and organization of various activities.

Samdech added that the theme of Angkor Sankranta 2023 "Dreams and Hopes" is a wide-ranging topic that highlights the country’s peace and development.
