Phnom Penh (FN), May 1 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen advised social media user May Sokun to apologize coach of the Cambodia national football team Keisuke Honda.

The premier spoke during the meeting with Cambodian athletes ahead of the 32nd SEA Games’ Opening Ceremony, held on Monday afternoon (May 1) at the Peace Palace.

Sokun criticized Honda’s dress code during the match between Cambodia and East Timor at the Olympic Stadium.

"May Sokun, if you are a good person, you should apologize to Honda. Your action seriously affected Honda, who has been coaching Cambodian team for many years,l the premier underlined.

“What is wrong with his clothes? I like it. He laughed and was excited. Citizens nationwide supported both coach and football players, yet May Sokun suddenly criticized," the premier underscored.

In addition, Samdech reminded the freedom of expression in the kingdom. The rights shall be limited without affecting anyone's popularity. Thus, Samdech advised not to insult the Thai boxer Bua Kaw.

In the first football match in Group A, Cambodia's U22 national team scored 3 points and drew with Indonesia's team after beating East Timor 4-0 and the Philippines 3-1, respectively. In the second match, Cambodia will compete with the Philippines, which will be held on 2 May 2023.
