Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 01 – In line with the economic growth and growth of car use in Cambodia, GTV MOTOR Co., Ltd. had invested in establishing a car assembly plant in Cambodia to meet domestic demand and drive down car prices.
The presence of this factory will contribute to support Cambodia's heavy industry, aligning with the Royal Government's outlined roadmap for the development of the automotive and electronics sector in Cambodia.
Soy Benlyly, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Deputy General Manager, said that GTV MOTOR Co., Ltd., founded in 2022, focuses on the development of Cambodian - own branded vehicles and is committed to bringing high quality car products and a high service experience to customers.
GTV Motor is a national car project of Cambodia established with the aim of leading the country's economic development and as a foundation for the domestic car industry. GTV MOTOR is jointly approved by six ministries, including the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation.
Situated along National Road 2 in Kandal Steung District, Kandal Province, the inauguration of this car assembly plant is set for the early months of 2024. It will kickstart operations by assembling a diverse range of five high-quality yet affordable car models, catering to individuals across all economic strata in Cambodia. GTV MOTOR's emergence marks the commencement of an exciting voyage for the national car brand, celebrated as a source of enduring national pride. Now, individuals have the opportunity to drive a nationally branded car that perfectly aligns with both their budget and quality expectations.
GTV MOTOR stands as the designated car assembly and export facility for Volkswagen, a renowned German automotive company, within Southeast Asia. Encompassing an expansive 100,000 square meters, the new plant boasts an impressive annual production capacity of up to 35,000 units, further solidifying its role as a pivotal player in the regional automotive landscape.
Over the past two years, GTV MOTOR has focused on technological innovation, establishing the GTV Automotive Electronics Research Institute (GTV AERI) in Cambodia, Germany, China, Japan and Singapore. Historically, GTV MOTOR has successfully developed a wide range of high-quality models, including Pickups, SUVs, Sedans, MPVs and trucks and so on.
CFO Lily also said that GTV MOTOR will continue to grow as a local car manufacturer in Cambodia. GTV cooperates with National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia, Chongqing University of Technology in China, KC MOTORS, TSARI-CQUT Institute of Intelligent Automotive Technology, Kaiyi Auto, JAC Auto, Sinotruck, Volkswagen, etc. GTV AERI aims to study automotive technology and provide advanced vocational training for the development of the Cambodian automotive industry. Currently, the institute has been recruiting master's degree students to study.
The development of GTV First Cambodian-owned brand vehicles can not only promote the rapid development of the local automobile industry, but also provide a strong impetus for the transformation and upgrading of the automobile industry. By strengthening research and development and brand building, it has improved its core competitiveness and influence and made positive contributions to the sustainable development of the Cambodian automobile industry. In the future, Cambodia’s independent automobile brands will play a leading role in the industry and promote the development of Cambodia’s entire manufacturing industry and industrial chain to a higher level.
