Tokyo (FN), Jan. 11 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Chairman of the Supreme Privy Council of the King and President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), welcomed Japan-Cambodia Association to open an office in Cambodia to attract more Japanese investors to the kingdom.

Samdech Techo received a courtesy call by the President of the Japan-Cambodia Association Takahashi Fumiaki on 10 January 2024 at New Otani Hotel in Tokyo during Samdech Techo Hun Sen's visit to Japan from 9-12 January 2024.

On that occasion, Takahashi Fumiaki thanked Samdech Techo for taking the time to meet with him and the delegation. He also commended Samdech Techo's pivotal role as the founder in promoting peace and development in Cambodia, particularly in strengthening Cambodia-Japan bilateral relations over the past three decades.

The meeting centred on the collaborative effort to attract more Japanese investment to Cambodia. Takahashi Fumiaki announced that the association would soon establish its office in Cambodia, playing a crucial role in enticing Japanese investors by showcasing Cambodia's investment potential to Japanese companies, particularly Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which number around four million.

"If we can attract just 0.1 per cent, there would be approximately 4,000 Japanese SMEs interested in investing in Cambodia," Takahashi Fumiaki underlined.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from companies already running in Cambodia. Some companies expressed their intent to establish a car repair training school and an entrepreneurship training school for Cambodian businesswomen.

In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed high appreciation for the Japan-Cambodia Association's efforts and warmly welcomed the opening of the association's office in Cambodia. He hoped that Japanese SMEs will play a crucial role in generating job opportunities for Cambodians and potentially transferring knowledge through investments in Cambodia.

In addition, Japanese companies can explore investment opportunities in Cambodia through coordination with the Japan-Cambodia Association as well as receiving potential benefits from the policies of the seventh-mandate Royal Government of Cambodia, which focuses on developing special economic zones exclusively for Japanese investors. These remarks were made by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet during the discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation.
