Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 11 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his surprise and encouragement at the growing number of women pursuing Information Technology (IT) majors, speaking on Thursday afternoon (Jan. 11) during the closing of the 2023 annual meeting of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.

Samdech Thipadei called on the Ministry of Women's Affairs and relevant ministries to sustain investments in women within the national policy framework, focusing on the IT sector through initiatives like Gender Responsive Budgeting and Human Resource Development.

"Upon observing the Ministry of Education's program, I was pleasantly surprised to learn about the exhibition at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), showcasing robotics and AI. The notable aspect was the increasing number of female IT professionals. Recently, I also had a meeting with two Grade A high school students specializing in IT," the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet continued that skills have no gender, emphasizing equal rights and efforts. For example, in the Cambodian army, women are equally capable of driving tanks and participating in overseas peacekeeping missions.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei mentioned that the Royal Government has set gender equality and women's empowerment in all sectors as a priority in the Pentagonal Strategy Phase One.

The premier added that the Royal Government will enhance citizenship in a highly civilized society with morality, equity, and inclusion, in which women are the core, by offering more opportunities for women's participation in determining the nation's fate.
