Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored the crucial role of citizen involvement in the fight against drugs, urging active participation through education, widespread awareness, and advising relatives to steer clear of illegal drugs.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Feb. 20) at the 2023 annual meeting of the National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.

"The battle against drugs is a collective concern. While the authorities, the Royal Government, and law enforcement have a duty to formulate preventive laws, meaningful progress is unattainable without active citizen participation," said the premier.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei highlighted that, regarding drugs, legal measures target vendors and producers, but consumers should be viewed as victims, who require education, guidance, and rehabilitation.

Premier Hun Manet underscored the imperative for collective community efforts in eradicating the drug problem, emphasizing that the pivotal role of the Royal Government and authorities at all levels is indispensable in addressing this issue.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet deemed the battle against drugs a crucial task for ensuring social security, issuing a decisive directive for relevant authorities to execute effective measures in the fight.
