Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated his order to not allow marijuana cultivation in Cambodia. Samdech Thipadei also warned foreign investors who aim to invest in marijuana in Cambodia not to waste their time.

The premier spoke on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 20) at the annual meeting of the National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.

"Regarding this issue, I already announced it on my Facebook, but a few individuals did not receive any information. Recently, a few people have asked me for an investment law to grow marijuana. They mentioned that they can grow marijuana to serve the health sector. However, I rejected the request as long as I still become the prime minister," the premier underscored.

The premier continued that the cultivation of marijuana has two challenges. First is management. Samdech Thipadei saw the news in the United States regarding the license to grow marijuana in some states. However, the government failed to control the legal growth. Second, marijuana is a drug and it is cheap and easy for consumers to find.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that marijuana cultivation is not profitable for Cambodia to invest thousands of hectares of land to grow marijuana for medical supply abroad.
