Melbourne (FN), Mar. 4 – Australia's SunRice Group intended to establish organic rice processing plants in Cambodia for export to international markets.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SunRice Group Paul Serra spoke during a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Monday (Mar. 4) in Melbourne, Australia.

During the meeting, the CEO of SunRice Group thanked Samdech Thipadei for allowing him and his delegation to pay a courtesy call. He also briefed Samdech Thipadei about the business activities of the SunRice Group, which is the first Australian company to import rice from Cambodia to Australia and New Zealand.

Paul Serra noted that Cambodia has great potential in the agricultural sector, with Cambodian rice having a world-renowned reputation, and Cambodia also has a highly competitive young labour force, stable electricity costs, transport infrastructure and logistics systems are also better. Based on these potentials, the company intended to further strengthen and expand relations with Cambodia in the agricultural sector, focusing on the rice processing industry. The company aimed to invest in the establishment of rice processing plants, especially organic rice for export.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed the company's initiative to expand its investment activities in Cambodia, focusing on the rice processing industry for export. Samdech Thipadei also confirmed to the company that agriculture is a priority sector that the Royal Government pays high attention. Currently, the Royal Government has introduced the policy to deploy agricultural experts in local communes nationwide to support farmers at the local level technically to increase the productivity of local agricultural products.

The premier also informed the CEO of the SunRice Group about the Royal Government's attention to the expansion of transport infrastructure and logistics systems and policies for the development of the kingdom's electricity sector. Premier Hun Manet continued that the Royal Government has been prioritizing the use of clean and renewable energy to support more competitive and convenient business and trade activities and reduce transportation costs.

Lastly, Samdech Thipadei encouraged the company to visit Cambodia to explore more investment opportunities by discussing with relevant ministries and institutions of Cambodia.
