Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 6 – Cambodian Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth met with the UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific Anne-Marie Trevelyan on 4 March 2024 at the Ministry.

Both ministers discussed key agendas, including the development of the Green Special Economic Zone (Green SEZ) project in Cambodia, UK investment, and the support of the UK for Cambodian exports.

Minister Pornmoniroth warmly welcomed the official visit of the UK minister for the Indo-Pacific to Cambodia and expressed gratitude for the cooperation between the two countries in the past. He particularly appreciated the UK's support for Cambodian exports and initiatives related to the preparation of the Green SEZ project, which has contributed to the socio-economic development of the kingdom.

Additionally, Minister Pornmoniroth provided an overview of the general situation of the Cambodian economy, highlighting the continued macroeconomic stability aligned with the recovery of economic growth. He also discussed the implementation of the Pentagonal Strategy Phase One and outlined strategies and measures for new reforms at the beginning of the new mandate of the Royal Government, aimed at achieving high-income status by 2050.

For her part, Anne-Marie Trevelyan expressed high appreciation for the significant progress in Cambodia-UK cooperation. She pledged to further strengthen and expand existing cooperation and to promote UK investment in Cambodia, particularly in the development of the Green SEZ project. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of attracting new British investors in line with Cambodia's favourable economic situation.

The discussion also focused on reforms aimed at attracting more foreign investors to Cambodia, including simplifying business registration processes, enhancing access to financial assistance and capital for small and medium enterprises, and improving debt management. Additionally, initiatives for free trade agreements were considered.

The meeting also focused on bringing UK expertise and world-leading education to Cambodia and exploring further investments. The two ministers also addressed British businesses' challenges and explored ways the two governments could work together to solve these issues.

Lastly, Minister Pornmoniroth thanked the UK for its cooperation and support to Cambodia and wished Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan every success during her visit to the kingdom.
